Last week I got round to rectifying the situation. I had an expert examine the wiring to see if it was terminal. He advised me that the battery had given up the ghost and not told the alternator. The alternator therfore believed the battery was completly flat, and so began charging at its top rate. All very well for a short period, but it must have kept running like this for hours. Anyway, to cut a long story short the alternator fryed itself.A new alternator, regulator and battery has now been fitted together with an oil change, and the whole lot is right back up to scratch. The other main problem is the seat. As you can see from the photo, ferrous oxide worm has taken to the under side, and has left it looking like a piece of swiss cheese ! Northern tools can supply a new one for as little as £20. I am quite happy to fit a new one but this will be a seperate issue after auction end.
